Discover the Key to Better Relationships
“The void created by the failure to communicate is soon filled with poison, drivel and misrepresentation.” ~ C. Northcote Parkinson
“Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand in hand.” ~ Emily Kimbrough
Are you stuck in a relationship that brings you unhappiness? Are you having trouble with your relationships at work? Are you unable to find a partner and left wondering why?
There are many different facets to relationships – emotional relationships, professional relationships, family relationships, intimate relationships. Each type requires an open mind and constant, open communication.
The key to success in any relationship is being yourself and being secure in yourself. All too often, we allow our insecurities and fears to take over and draw us into a downward spiral of doubt, negativity and stress. Individuals may notice that they follow certain patterns in relationships, yet are unaware of what is determining those patterns.
The ability to maintain a healthy and fulfilling relationship of any kind starts with you. Into any relationship, we bring our life experiences and our experience can dictate how we perceive the world around us. Our life experiences also have a major impact on how we communicate and interact with people.
Good Communication, Good Relationships
Another critical component to having incredible relationships is communication. As one relationship expert said, “Communication and a relationship is like oxygen and your life – without, it dies.” The inability to fully express ourselves and communicate our needs has the power to create resentment and damage our relationships.
Good communication goes beyond asking your partner how his or her day was. Good communication entails listening, being present, being open and honest, knowing how to express ourselves effectively and assertively, and knowing how to build/maintain partnerships.
Self Confidence Attracts Meaningful Relationships
Self-confidence is another component to a healthy relationship. When we exude confidence, people respond to us differently than when we exhibit low self-esteem. When we suffer from low self-esteem, we may not feel deserving of a wonderful relationship, or we may sabotage the relationship we’re in. In the end, we can’t attract a meaningful relationship until these issues are dealt with. When your self-esteem goes up, your value will go up, and you will enter relationships with people who reflect the person you are.
Study shows that when individuals become more present and self-confident, they are more able to build and maintain positive relationships. Their lives are richer, more connected and ultimately more rewarding.
